The Agenda was to discuss the Grants submitted by the various non-profit groups including the AIFF's $ 2500 Grant Application that was submitted back in June.

I was second on the list to speak and briefly explained ourneed for equipment for the Festival next year. I also toldthe Commissioners that since the Peck Center has no usable equipment for the public (except for chairs), the AIFF would offer our equipment purchased from the City Grant to be made available to other non-profits under some agreement with the City. At the end of my short presentation, the Mayor commented that he was greatly supportive of the efforts of the Film Festival!!

When all the public response was made (John was the last tospeak) Commissioner Ken Walker voiced his support for the AIFF. A discussion developed concerning voting and goingthrough each grand request line by line. It was agreed to followa grant by grant request and come to consensus on each request.

When the AIFF grant was discussed the staff had recommendedonly $ 1400 be awarded. Mayor Malcolm suggested it be raised to $ 2000. Commissioners Eric Childers and Ken Walker agreed. Majority ruled.

Great News for our efforts, especially for next year since thisbudget is for 2009. Another issue of interest that was suggested by Commissioner Sapp was to grant the City's newest Advisory Group, the Arts Council a $ 10,000 grant for next year to develop city-wide events, such as presentations, art exhibits, musical events for the city. After some discussion the Commissioners agreed toaward a $ 5000 grant to the Arts Council.

Other Agencies and Non-profits grants approved were:

Shop With A Cop $1500 ($ 3000 asked)
Amelia Island Museum of History $ 10,000 ($ 18,000 asked, staff recom. $ 9,500)
Island Book Festival $900......
plus many others
Community in Schools
Barnabas Center
Council on Aging

Thanks to all you have been helpful in gaining additional funding and Corporate Sponsors for the Film Festival!

Tony

Friday night GALA September 26, 2008

Just got an email from Lucia Fishborne, FL State Film Commissionerletting us know she would like to join us at the Friday night GALA at the Florida House Inn, September 26, 2008. Please put him on your list for September events and publicity efforts coming in Aug/Sept.

Have a great week to all.

_____________________________________________
Hi Tony:

Greetings from Augusta. I wanted to follow up with you about the discussion that we had at our meeting in May. I am sorry about the tardy response but I was in France for part of the interval and didn't get around to some of my scheduled activities until I returned.

As I mentioned at our meeting we have a kind of local activities newspaper here in Augusta called "The Metro Spirit". This is a free publication available around town. While it focuses on local events they might be interested in advertising for the film festival at Amelia Island. In looking through the current edition they have various large ads (some of which are in color) as well as a classified section. Before I contact them I wanted to ask which type of ad you would want. I would think a larger type ad with an image related to the festival might be best. They will charge for this of course.

I will see about what sort of interest level in the festival exists at our local university (Augusta State Unviversity). Emory University and the University of Georgia (in Athens) also have film studies departments and I would be happy to contact them if you would like.

Can you send me an update on the itinerary for September? I'd like to tell these folks what films are scheduled, etc. Were we able to get a "celebrity" yet...? Have the venues been worked out?

My wife (Rhee) and I have tentative plans to return to Fernandina for at least some of the September events and will be sending our financial contribution in shortly. I would be able to volunteer for at least one of the days if we are able to come and Rhee might be able to do this as well. Would this be helpful? At any rate I will confirm our plans about this with your group within the next couple of weeks.

Again I am sorry about how long it took to get back to you. I certainly enjoyed meeting you last month and look forward to seeing you again soon.

Best regards.
Mike Fincher

Shrimp Festival Parade

The Shrimp Festival Parade is Thursday, April 24th and Amelia Island Film Festival has a great vintage Town car complete with a Parade seat (Compliments of Patrick Keogh) and a banner (Thanks to Jose'), we are #38 in the line-up and the car and banner will be marked in the upper right corner of both the car and banner.

Mr. Tony McAdoo will be The Director and as we all know a director needs Starlets, so this is a casting call for Starlets, some may ride and some may walk along (imagine RED CARPET beneath your feet) we also need two to carry the banner in front of the Town car. Soooo the theme of the Shrimp Festival Parade is "Dawn of the Modern Shrimp Industry", (Tribute to Shrimpers).

The car will be onsite earlier in the day, the site is 13th & Beech (ball park) you must park and walk in. They will start clearing downtown around 4:00 so park on 13th or Atlantic School on Atlantic Av , #38 is who we are. The pull out time from the ballpark is 5:45, this Parade has 90 entries so it will take awhile before they wave us into the moving parade but, be on time (around 5:30) I need to know now who will be participating, who prefers to ride, who can walk and who will carry our banner.

We are going to be honored to have a local celebrity join us in the front seat of the Town car, Executive Director of the Shrimp Producers for the State of Florida, Mrs.Janie Thomas.

OK, it's a wrap, call me at home 261-6258 or email jnowlin125@aol.com or cell 753-0334.

Thanks, look forward to hearing from you! I think it would be a great joint venture with his organization for the Film Festival. He told me that all charges would be picked up by the College ($ 500 royality fee). The one night event runs about 2 + hours includinga dozen or so shorts/animations. What do you think? Just this morning in finalizing our Submission Application Form for this Friday's release on our website, we added a Comedy Category for consideration. Let's see what happens in the next six weeks!!

Thanks to all,
Tony McAdoo
AIFF Inaugural Season First Screenings: Thursday, September 25, 2008

HERE IS THE LETTER

Comic Arts Laugh Festival @ Belfast, Maine www.comicartsfest.com April 9-13 /08

This is a call for comedy or humorous film submissions.

Films can be actual films or digital.

Film and digital arts submissions are as folows.

In 2008 we have to move very quickly. We’ll develop further and infinitely more complicated submission standards as we go along.

All films are open for submission as long as they are clearly humorous. Anything funny is on the table. Funny: ha-ha Funny: bad milk. Both ok. Black (the humor not the color skin) humor, dour humor, or ghoulish or sophomoric or doo-fus, amateurish, dirty, stupid, sweet, erotic…… it is all welcome. Yes: even your stupid youtube.com stuff is welcome for consideration.

Only DVD’s or web links will be considered for submissions. Do not send a 35mm print under any circumstances. You can send us a link to a web based video for consideration. You agree to provide us with a DVD for the showing if your film is accepted.

If a film has been shown and reviewed by multiple reviewers that will suffice for us to consider it as a submission. Please advise us.

If the film has been shown before or published on the web we do not care. Your work is welcome.

We can show either DVD or 35MM at the festival. A DVD makes it more likely that we’ll choose to show your movie as it will make it easier in the technical department.

Please send your DVD with a cover letter to CALF 93 Main Street Belfast, Maine 04915.

Clearly mark your DVD and the DVD case with your movie name and all contact information.

If you want your DVD back please include a prepaid mailer. If we do not receive a prepaid mailer we will not be able to send it back.

There is no submission charge.

We will notify you if the film is accepted.

Films will be chosen by April 1st at the latest.

Prizes to be announced.

Further information contact Mike Hurley 207-338-1975 info@comicartsfest.com

Comic Arts Laugh Festival www.comicartsfest.com April 9-13 2008 Belfast, Maine

AIFF Call for Film Submissions Feb 1, 2008

Dear Friends of AIFF:

I hope everyone is doing wonderful this week.
Ran into Barbara Lum at the Green Market (Farmers Market) today and she and I discussed her plans for decorating one of the Chamber's Tables with the Amelia Island Film Festival motif.... Great! I told her to include 2, maybe 4 tickets for the January Sneak Previews plus a Complete Pass for the Film Festival in September for the Silent Auction. (her design won the biggest donation last year!)

I think we (AIFF) should try to purchase a few chairs for sure.

What do you guys think? If we buy early they cost $ 49 each instead of around $ 75.

Please advise. Anyone interested? Tony

P.s. Cathy and Julia have suggested a "thank you Sunset Cocktail Event " from the Film Festival at the Hotel for either Friday or Saturday the weekend between Christmas and New Year's Day. The Hampton Inn & Suites has agreed to sponsor us the venue!! I have a Gift Certificate from the Arts Academy for 1 hour of Guitars Playing (not maids a leaping). Beba used to be a well-to-do socialite but successive economic and personal crises have worn her out, reducing her to a purveyor of decadence. Nowadays she finds herself forced to sell door-to-door beauty products. Her thick gold earrings, and her maid, Dora, are the last bastions of a lifestyle of which she refuses to let go.

It is now that the sharpest aspects of their relationship come into view. Though doomed by class prejudices and abusive power codes there is also a bond cemented by mutual love from three decades of living together. Finally, Beba gets the money to cancel the debt and offers some cash in advance to make her maid stay. But Dora has already made up her mind. Dora leaves the apartment to live with Miguel, her weekend boyfriend, at her new home on the city outskirts. Meanwhile, at Beba's apartment, the energy, and telephone services are suspended due to lack of payment.

________________________________________________________

This FLICK sounds interesting for you information in Jacksonville on Sunday, however, if you don't plan to drive there, join us instead at the Palace on Centre Street Downtown from 12:30-2 pm to Pre-Screen Shorts from Duncan MacGregory (local filmmaker) Jay Rosenblatt (national known short filmmaker) and animated shorts from Out of Our Minds Studios in Winston-Salem.

Hope to see you there or catch the real show on Tuesday, October 30 when doors will open at 6:30 pm for: CRAZY LOVE, plus Ghosts Tales by Palace bartended Art Steinig, and Shorts that were selected by AIFF Members and Guests this Sunday afternoon.
